Our History

J.E. Phillips Co., Inc. was founded in October of 1969 by Jack Phillips and C.E. “Big Andy” Andrews—two experienced regional sales managers who decided to take a leap of faith and start their own manufacturer’s representative firm. Jack had been with New Departure Hyatt Bearing, while Andy represented Garrett Seal Corporation’s turboprop and fan engine division.

When Jack resigned first, he joked that the new company should bear his name. Andy agreed with a grin, noting that if things didn’t work out, the creditors would be after Jack—not him. Fortunately, that day never came.

Hartzell Air Movement became the first manufacturer represented by J.E. Phillips Co., followed soon after by IAP, Inc. As the company grew, so did its portfolio—adding respected names like Cincinnati Fan and Spencer Turbine in the 1990s and early 2000s.

In 1973, Andy’s son Charlie Andrews joined the business, followed by Art Lester in 1979 and Chuck Schnurle in 1980. Together, they led and expanded the company’s reach and built long-standing relationships across the region.

Today, J.E. Phillips Co., continues to thrive under the leadership of Jenny Marshall, daughter of Charlie Andrews, and Brian Schnurle, son of Chuck Schnurle. The company’s legacy lives on through its third-generation leadership—something “Big Andy” may not have imagined back in 1969, but would no doubt be proud to see today.
